My parents had taken out a family membership with an annual fee of €120. I recently came across comments online from former members reporting dubious business practices by the International Air Ambulance. This prompted me to take notice and scrutinize my parents' bank statements. We were horrified to discover that this organization had debited €120 up to four or five times a year, bringing the total annual fee to at least €480. The organization justifies this with its bylaws. These bylaws, they claim, can be found on their website and were supposedly once published in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (F.A.Z.). We don't read the F.A.Z., and we were never informed about the bylaws. Furthermore, the website is offline (as of September 2020). Between 2015 and 2020, IFA, instead of charging the annual family membership fee of €120, debited an additional €1,760 from my parents' account. Unfortunately, my parents are quite elderly and, out of good faith, didn't check their bank statements. The Hamburg Consumer Center advised us to terminate the contract immediately. Please inform yourselves and don't simply grant a SEPA direct debit mandate. The cancellation period is also 24 months (!!!!).
