Safety Management System (SMS)

Platinum operators must maintain a formal SMS. This is a structured framework for identifying hazards, assessing risks, implementing mitigations, and tracking outcomes. An SMS is not a binder on a shelf. ARGUS auditors verify that the system is active: that hazard reports are being filed, investigated, and resolved, and that safety metrics are being tracked and acted on.

Flight Data Monitoring (FDM)

Platinum operators must record and analyze flight data. This means the operator downloads data from the aircraft after every flight and reviews it for anomalies: hard landings, unstabilized approaches, exceedances, and deviations from standard operating procedures. FDM is expensive to implement and requires dedicated staff or contracted analysis services.

Platinum Operators on the Bravo Register

Several ARGUS Platinum operators are listed on the Bravo register. These include some of the most recognized names in charter and managed aviation:

What the Onsite Audit Looks Like

The ARGUS Platinum audit is conducted by experienced aviation auditors who spend several days at the operator's primary base of operations. The audit includes:

• Financial investment. Implementing SMS and FDM programs requires dedicated staff, software, and ongoing analysis. For a small operator with 5-10 aircraft, this can cost $200,000-$500,000 annually.
• Organizational commitment. Platinum requires a safety culture that permeates the entire organization, from the CEO to the line mechanic. Operators that treat safety as a compliance checkbox rather than an operational priority will not pass the onsite audit.
• Fleet size bias. Larger operators find it easier to absorb the fixed costs of SMS and FDM across a bigger fleet. Most Platinum operators have 20+ aircraft.

What Platinum Means for Charter Buyers

For most charter flights within the United States on established routes, an ARGUS Gold operator with proper insurance is considered acceptable by the majority of brokers and aviation consultants.

Platinum becomes more relevant when:

• Flying internationally where regulatory oversight may be less rigorous
• Operating complex itineraries with multiple legs and tight turnarounds
• Corporate travel policies specifically require Platinum (common among Fortune 500 companies)
• The client wants the highest available level of third-party verification

Checking an Operator's Rating

Before booking a charter flight, verify the operator's current ARGUS status on Bravo. Ratings can change. An operator that was Platinum last year may have been downgraded or may have let the certification lapse. Always check the current status, not a cached marketing claim.
