St. Maarten, Sint Maarten

Dutch-Caribbean hub and St. Barts gateway

St. Maarten is a central Caribbean private-aviation hub, a dual Dutch-French island known worldwide for the low Maho Beach approach and its role as the jet gateway to St. Barthelemy. The winter high season brings heavy and ultra-long-range jets carrying leisure travelers, yacht owners, and St. Barts-bound passengers transferring to small aircraft or helicopters, with the Christmas-to-New-Year window the busiest. Passengers include island-hopping ultra-high-net-worth travelers, resort guests, and superyacht crews provisioning across the Leeward Islands. Demand is strongest from December through April, and the field's connectivity makes it the practical arrival point for the smaller neighboring islands.

Princess Juliana International Airport (SXM/TNCM) sits on the Dutch side beside Maho Beach, with a single runway around 2,300 metres whose approach passes famously low over the sand, handling heavy and many ultra-long-range jets. A dedicated FBO handles customs, immigration, hangarage, and the onward small-aircraft and helicopter shuttles to St. Barts about 10 minutes away by air. The coastal terrain and trade winds are manageable, with attention to summer tropical systems, and the French-side Grand Case (SFG/TFFG) for light aircraft and San Juan (SJU/TJSJ) and Antigua (ANU/TAPA) as regional alternates. The transfer to Dutch-side and French-side resorts runs about 15 to 30 minutes by car.
